Question 1

How often should I have my HVAC system serviced in Vail?

Accepted Answer

For most homes around Vail, we recommend a cooling checkup before summer and a heating checkup before winter. Our climate is hard on equipment. Air conditioners run for months under heavy demand, and the fine desert dust that blows through the area works its way into everything. Two seasonal visits a year let us catch a worn part, a low refrigerant charge, or a clogged component before it becomes a breakdown on the hottest or coldest day. Regular attention also keeps your system running efficiently, which matters when it is working as hard as it does here. If your equipment is older or has been struggling, more frequent attention is worth considering to keep it reliable.

Question 2

How long should an HVAC system last in our climate?

Accepted Answer

A well maintained air conditioner in Vail typically gives you somewhere in the range of twelve to eighteen years, and furnaces often run longer since they work fewer months of the year. Our intense summer heat does shorten the life of cooling equipment compared to milder parts of the country, simply because the system runs so many more hours. How you maintain it makes a real difference. We have seen neglected units fail well before their time and carefully serviced ones keep going strong past expectations. When we inspect your system, we give you an honest read on where it stands and roughly how much useful life it has left, so you are never caught off guard by a sudden failure.

Question 3

Why are my energy bills so high in the summer?

Accepted Answer

A summer spike almost always means your system is working harder than it should to reach the temperature you want. The usual culprits in Vail homes are a dirty filter choking airflow, a low refrigerant charge, an aging unit losing efficiency, leaky or poorly insulated ductwork, or a thermostat fighting the relentless afternoon sun. Sometimes the system is simply undersized for the home. When we come out, we measure what is actually happening rather than guessing, then show you where the energy and money are going. Often a targeted repair or a thorough tune up brings the bill back down without the cost of replacing anything major, which is always the outcome we aim for first.

Question 4

What size HVAC system does my home need?

Accepted Answer

Sizing is one of the most important and most often botched parts of this trade. A system that is too small never keeps up during a Vail summer, while one that is too large cycles on and off too quickly, wears itself out, and leaves the air feeling clammy. The right size depends on your square footage, ceiling heights, insulation, windows, sun exposure, and how the home was built. The homes in the newer master planned communities and the older properties around the area can have very different needs. We calculate the proper load for your specific home rather than guessing from square footage alone, which is how you end up with comfort and efficiency that genuinely last for years.

Question 5

Why is my air conditioner running but not cooling the house?

Accepted Answer

This is one of the most common calls we get during a Vail summer. When the system runs but the air is not cold, the likely causes are a low refrigerant charge from a leak, a frozen evaporator coil, a failing compressor, a dirty filter starving the system of airflow, or dirty outdoor coils that cannot shed heat. Sometimes the trouble is electrical, with a capacitor or contactor failing to drive the parts that produce cold air. We work through these possibilities methodically with real diagnostic tools instead of swapping parts and hoping. Once we find the true cause, we explain it clearly and tell you whether a straightforward repair will get you back to comfortable.

Question 6

Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the age of the unit, what failed, and how the system has performed overall. As a general rule, if your air conditioner is well past a decade old, the repair is costly, and the system has been unreliable, replacement often makes more sense than pouring money into aging equipment. But a newer unit with a single failed part is usually worth repairing. We give you an honest assessment after diagnosing the problem, laying out both paths so you can decide what fits your home and plans. We never push a replacement you do not need, because that is not how you earn trust in a community like Vail where neighbors talk to neighbors.

Question 7

How long does a new AC installation take?

Accepted Answer

Most residential air conditioning installations in Vail take a single day, often wrapping up within several hours once we are set up. The exact time depends on whether we are doing a straight changeout of an existing system or modifying things to fit new equipment, the layout of your home, and how accessible the existing components are. Homes on larger lots or with older setups sometimes take a bit longer. We always give you a realistic time frame before we start so your day is not a mystery. When the work is done, we test everything thoroughly, walk you through the new system, and make sure you understand how to get the best performance out of it.

Question 8

Why does my AC keep freezing up?

Accepted Answer

A frozen air conditioner usually points to one of two things, restricted airflow or low refrigerant. When airflow drops because of a dirty filter, blocked vents, or a failing blower, the coil gets too cold and ice forms. Low refrigerant from a leak causes the same result. Once ice builds up, the system cannot cool at all, and you may notice water pooling when it melts. If yours keeps freezing, turn it off to let it thaw and give us a call. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor, which is the costliest part to replace. We find the underlying cause and fix it so the freezing does not keep coming back to haunt you.

Question 9

Why is my furnace blowing cold air?

Accepted Answer

A furnace pushing cold air is a frequent winter complaint in Vail, and it has several possible explanations. The thermostat may be set to a fan setting that runs the blower without heat. The ignition or pilot system may have failed, so the burners never light. A furnace can also shut its burners down on a safety control while the blower keeps running, often from overheating caused by a dirty filter or a blocked flue. Less commonly, a fuel supply issue is at play. We diagnose which of these is actually happening rather than guessing. If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, go outside immediately and call 911 – this is a serious emergency that needs urgent attention from the gas company.

Question 10

How do I know if my furnace needs replacing?

Accepted Answer

A few signs tend to point toward replacement rather than another repair. If your furnace is old, the heat exchanger is cracked, repairs keep stacking up, or it is no longer keeping the home comfortable or efficient, replacement is often the smarter long-term choice. We give you an honest assessment of the condition of your system and the real costs of continuing to repair versus investing in a new, properly sized unit that will deliver reliable heat for years.
